Spanish
"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages opens every door along the way." Frank Smith.
Spanish is taught across all of KS2 and the focus for learning is on practical communication. Teaching is in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum, with modifications in place which allow for the individual and differentiated needs of the children.
KS2 children have a regular weekly lesson of modern foreign language a week, in order to ensure progression and skills development. The curriculum that is followed is based on the guidance given in the revised National Curriculum.
At St. Andrew's, children are taught to know and understand how to:
· Ask and answer questions
· Use correct pronunciation and intonation
· Memorise words
· Interpret meaning
· Understand basic grammar
· Work in pairs and groups, and communicate in French
· Look at life in another culture
During Spanish sessions, children are given the opportunity to work as a class, as individuals and as part of a group.
